Similarities and differences between CS: GO and VALORANTīoth Counter-Strike and VALORANT are team-based first-person shooters. Now that there is an “alternative” to 5v5 tactical shooters, many Counter-Strike pros are retiring from the game and making a competitive switch to VALORANT. Though gameplay objectives are largely the same, Counter-Strike features a more traditional, straight-up style while VALORANT throws in more gimmicks and allows players to more freely express themselves. Riot Games had already enjoyed massive success in esports with their MOBA title League of Legends and were now looking to encroach on Counter-Strike’s hold over the FPS genre. VALORANT’s esports scene took off shortly after as the game immediately started out with a large player base thanks to a free-to-play business model. Upon launch, VALORANT was dubbed a “CS clone” by many gamers as there are many gameplay similarities between the two. That all changed in the summer of 2020 when Riot Games released VALORANT. This allowed it to firmly occupy its niche in the competitive scene, which may have contributed to its lasting success. Counter-Strike has a global community, with high-level teams and players found in every region of the world.Īlthough it is highly influential in popularizing first-person shooters (FPS) in esports, no other game in the genre has yet to replicate Counter-Strike’s unique gameplay formula. The series has seen nearly twenty years of success in esports and with tournament prize pools regularly reaching six figures, it is also one of the most profitable routes in professional gaming. From there the game’s competitive scene would erupt until Counter-Strike became the world’s most popular esport. After the original game’s full version was released in 2000, the shooter made its esports debut a year later at the 2001 Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) Winter Championship. What do you think of these players’ fragging ability? Let us know down in the comments below. □□ Peter 'dupreeh' Rasmussen – 59.4% /c0OmU7XjQq □□ Aleksandr 's1mple' Kostyliev – 63.0% Players with the highest success rate in opening duels at CS:GO Major events The odds are stacked against any player that even attempts to cross him, be it with any type of gun found in CSGO. The Ukrainian’s stat can be simplified – s1mple wins almost two-thirds of opening duels. While he tries to pick up the AWP whenever he can, calling s1mple’s AK-47 “way above average” is a massive understatement. Deemed by many as the best player in CSGO that has never won a Major trophy up to this point, there is no denying s1mple’s outstanding fragging capability. While having FalleN on this list may be a surprise for some, the presence of s1mple was to be expected. This kind of playstyle has put him right up there as being the second-best player in terms of winning opening duels. Moreover, he often goes for aggressive opening picks. However, the CSGO veteran is known for his close quarter plays with the AWP. FalleN is mainly an AWPer, after all, and he only picks up the rifle if he has no other choice. Sitting at the second position and overtaking dupreeh by a mere 0.4%, it is kind of a surprise to see FalleN take up the #2 spot. Being the main entry fragger alongside Emil “Magisk” Reif, the 59.4% of times that dupreeh has won an opening duel definitely make him the most reliable entry fragger on the team. The 26-year-old also has the second-highest Impact stat in his team (at 1.18), just behind his teammate Nicolai “device” Reedtz. Having 3 Majors under the belt, all with Astralis, this player was already shining in his TSM days back in 2015. Known for his extreme fragging capabilities in Astralis, it is no wonder that dupreeh makes the list. HLTV has released a Twitter post in which they specify the top 3 “players with the highest success rate in opening duels at CS:GO Major events.” Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, and Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen all make up the list. Each team usually has a designated entry fragger, a player that is responsible for taking down the first player from the opposing team that they encounter. When it comes to entry fragging and opening duels, the CSGO scene has numerous specialists in this role.
